What is happening
to my bicycle!?😱
Become more confident by learning the most common problems people who regularly ride a bicycle will experience.
Don’t worry!
Most bicycles these days — especially anything manufactured after 2000 — are exceptionally reliable, with components that are very difficult to break.
If left unchecked, seemingly small problems can lead to more unnecessary and expensive repairs or unexpected failures while commuting.
However…
The Role of Maintenance
The cheapest and easiest way to keep a bicycle in good shape for longer is to give regular maintenance. How often maintenance is needed can vary according to riding style and how much it is used but, a good rule of thumb would be
How often should you service your bike?
Normal bikes, 1 to 2 times per year
Cargo bikes, 2 to 3 times per year
Electric bikes, 2 to 3 times per year
Electric cargo bikes, or other bikes with passengers, 3 to 4 times per year
Electric passenger bikes, 3 to 4 times per year
*Keep in mind that a bike equally needs service if it is used or not used. Infrequent and frequent use both require more maintenance. Everything in between is considered “normal use.” Normal use can be anything from 2 to 6 times per week.
